My Story

Hi! My name is Angela Myers and I was born and raised in the midwest. My education is a tale of two high schools: I am enrolled at Hoover High School but attend Jackson High School to participate in the IB program. I love writing, debating, volunteering, and hanging out with my friends and family.

Mock Trial

Mock Trial is a club where I have the opportunity to use my love for debate, public speaking, and writing to get insight into the world of law. I won outstanding witness and outstanding attorney over my years in the club. I am currently co-president of Hoover's Mock Trial club.

Camp Read-A-Lot

Camp Read-A-Lot is a summer camp started at my church to promote literacy within my community. I am on the planning committee, where I not only design and set up camp activities but also serve as the public relations chairperson for the camp.

Leadership/Interact Club

Leadership/Interact Club is a community service club at Hoover High School. I currently am the president of this club and oversee service projects throughout the year (the monthly soup kitchen, the book drive, etc.). I also plan the annual Senior Citizen's Prom with the rest of the board.

Cookie Walk

The cookie walk is a fundraiser that I organize with my mom. Every year, we bake a variety of cookies and collect cookie donations. Then, we run a fundraiser to sell them to our church around christmastime. The proceeds go to United Methodist Women to empower women worldwide in the name of Christ.

Vacation Bible School

As a kid, VBS was one of my favorite weeks of the summer so as soon as I was old enough to volunteer, I did! I served a few years as a crew leader but eventually was promoted to Imagination Station Leader, where I teach science annually.

Other Community Service

I teach Sunday School once a month to third through fifth graders at my church. I also was inducted into National Honors Society junior year and love participating in service projects through this group.

Writing

Writing is my one true love; I hope to one day be a New York Times bestselling writer. Along with writing in my free time, I also attended the prestigious Kenyon Young Writer's Workshop this summer. Two pieces I wrote there were published in the Kenyon Review Young Writers Anthology.

Travel

My parents instilled in me the following mantra: the best thing to spend your money on is travel. Whether it is a family trip to our old house in Chicago, a study abroad trip to Spain and Portugal with my school, or learning about Dad's inspirational travels, I have always had a crush on the world.
