My Story
There are many I could describe myself concretely: the oldest of nine kids, a suburbanite-turned-farm girl, a tennis player, a lover of academics... But these are all evident through my application, not fully showing what I hope to bring to my college!
I hope this page will do just that.
Theater
After a leadership role in theater's crew, I decided to leap out of my comfort zone and try acting . I had an amazing experience and have continued to act! This year, I wrote and directed a skit as well as acting in other students' skits. I can't wait to continue to act in high school and college!
Family Responsibilities
As the oldest of nine children, I've always dedicated lots of time to my family. Whether I'm babysitting my younger siblings, doing farm chores, or helping around the house, family responsibilities have made up a significant amount of my time.
Leader in Training Program at Camp Gray
For three weeks before my senior year, I participated in the Leader in Training Program at Camp Gray. The program was focused on becoming an effective camp counselor and leader. I lead activities and games, learned about child development, and helped ensure campers' emotional and physical safety.
Student Council
As a member of both the Laurel and Viroqua High School Student Councils, I am involved in the planning and execution of countless events, fundraisers, and initiatives within my two high schools. As President of Laurel's Council this year, I am able to have an even more meaningful impact!
Poverty Awareness
Poverty Awareness is a yearly initiative in which students raise donations for a local charity and then sleep outside in boxes. We sleep out in March, when it's cold and wet, and attend school the next day! Because of my passion for this event, I was the head organizer in my junior year.
Teen Library Advisory Council
Library Council has been an amazing way for me to maintain my passion for reading while giving back to the school. Council members assist in the library and participate in reading-themed activities as a group. I became Vice President senior year and lead the window decoration and study buddy groups.
