My Story
Hello, my name is Emily Moseley! I was born and raised in Atlanta and have developed a passion for engineering in the last few years. I have always been one to tinker, and I believe that you learn by doing. I am always willing to try something new, whether it be CAD or teaching myself calligraphy!
3D Printing Prosthetic Hands
I began working with a nonprofit, E-nable, my Sophomore year to size, modify, and 3D print different models of prostheses for a teenager in Atlanta named Alex. Since then, I have continued work with E-nable, Alex, and other teenagers which has taught me the importance of human-centered design.
Georgia Governor's Honors Program
I spent summer before senior year majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Graphic Design at GHP. I was able to build off of my skills and learn so much more about programming in Python, working with electronics through an Arduino, and collaborating with so many other passionate engineers!
SpaceWorks Aerospace Summer Training & Research Opportunity
Summer before Junior year, I interned at an aerospace company with 4 other interns to design, model, test, and create a technologically and economically feasible business plan for a second-generation space tourism vehicle. I was the lead CAD Engineer, Technical Artist/Illustrator, and TPS Engineer.
Firefly Creative Inc. Marketing Internship
My Junior year, I interned with an advertising firm for a week where I was put to work for a client to market her products. I made art to advertise on her business page, wrote copy, and set up a year-long advertising plan. I also learned a lot about networking with other business professionals.
CAD Projects
Where I've found my passions of engineering/math overlap with my love of art, is CAD. This has been so helpful in past internships, engineering classes, and just a great hobby to explore. I am proficient in SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, and Google SketchUp; also 3D printing software.
Drama Stage Manager
Through my friends, I've become connected with the MVPS Drama department and I'm now their stage manager, crew member, prop creator, and set builder. I've been a part of the fall Hitchcock play, The 39 Steps , and the spring musical, Shrek the Musical, managing the cast, crew, props, etc!
National Honor Society Secretary
Mount Vernon's chapter of the NHS focuses on character, leadership, and service; all things that I have been recognized for and continue to work towards. My job as Secretary is to record meeting minutes, run the Communications Committee, send emails and reminders to members, and track service hours.
Study Guide Mission
I have created and designed all-encompassing, comprehensive study guides that organize information in a way that better facilitates learning and note-taking. I incorporate a strong, structural, schematic layout and graphic design into my documents that are shared with my entire class of 2017.
Robotics Team
We may be small, but the robotics team has grown tremendously ever since I helped co-found our first Sumo Robot League my Junior year. We work with 3D printed parts, Arduinos, and some motors to build and program completely autonomous robots that compete against each other and others across Georgia.
Art & Photography
I believe that being well-rounded is an important trait to have, especially as an engineer. That is why I have continued to follow my artistic talents, exploring new media and undertaking projects like drawing, painting, calligraphy, photography, and most recently painting murals.
Business & Entrepreneurship Club
I joined Business & Entrepreneurship Club my freshman year and it has taught me so much about following my passions and curiosities. Every week, a different business owner speaks to us and we have many field trips around Atlanta including Harvard's Alumni Business Breakfast.
Volunteer Work
I find ways to volunteer in my community both through my school and National Honor Society, but also on my own. I regularly volunteer at Furkids animal shelter (where we eventually adopted our cats), and through my work with prosthetic hands with E-nable.
Volleyball
Beginning in 6th grade, I played both school and club volleyball and it has allowed me to grow trememdously over the years; and I'm playing my fourth and final season of Varsity Volleyball this year. I love being involved in a team where communication is key, as well as dedication and hard work!
Life is always better at the lake...
If you know me, you know my family's lakehouse is my second home, I could fish before I could walk and going to Lake Lanier has taught me so many invaluable skills like repairing a jet-ski, building a boat, and keeping up the property.
