My Story

Welcome to my profile! I consider myself a bridge-builder because I love bringing people from different walks of life and different perspectives together. I also love sports. Regardless of what I choose to do professionally, I hope to inspire and empower young people.

Staff Writer for "Woodley Leaves"

I have served as a staff writer for my school's newspaper, "The Woodley Leaves," since my freshman year. I have written feature articles on topics ranging from international travel programs for students to diversity issues in secondary education. In addition, I often write the sports articles.

Boy Scouts of America

Earlier this year I earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting. Participating in scouting, especially as Senior Patrol Leader, allowed me the opportunity to enhance both my leadership and survival skills, and was well worth the hard work and commitment.

Operation Understanding DC

I am one of twenty-four high school seniors from the DC, MD, VA area who were selected to participate in Operation Understanding, a program that preaches and teaches cultural tolerance. The program has equipped me with the skills and confidence to make change in my community, nation, and the world.

Tennis

I love tennis and became serious about the sport when I turned ten years old. I've been a member of the Maret tennis team since freshman year and look forward to helping the team to another successful season. In addition to competing at school and in tournaments, I also teach tennis over the summer.

Humans of Maret

I am the Founder and Director of a Facebook page called Humans of Maret, which is inspired by Humans of New York, and allows the Maret community the opportunity to learn more about one another. I cherish the opportunity to listen to my peers' stories and share them with our students and faculty.

The Paper Project

One of the most fulfilling activities I have been engaged in this school year is called the Paper Project whose mission is to start student newspapers in D.C. public middle schools. Using my writing skills and my photography background to help these eager and curious youngsters is very rewarding.

Booster Club President

I love promoting school spirit, from athletic events to interscholastic competitions such as "Its Academic." Since my freshman year I have participated in the Booster Club, and I was voted Booster Club President for my senior year.

Internship at WHUR Radio Station

During the summer of 2013, I interned at WHUR radio station where I learned about the communication and media industry, and especially what it takes to operate a successful radio station. I edited scripts, entered computer data, answered phone calls, and assisted in interviews.

Community Service

I am devoted to Public Service. I serve on the Board of Christian Education at my church and help plan various programs for the church's youth, I am the Teen Community Service Coordinator for the DC chapter of Jack and Jill Inc., and I have coached Special Olympics basketball the past two winters.
