My Story

Ciao tutti! Mi chiamo Sophia Lechner. I am from San Francisco, California. A fun fact about me is that I am a triplet! My triplet brother, sister, & I all have different colored eyes, and we each attend different high schools. You can find me running on the trails, at the easel, or in the kitchen!

Art

My world is transformed when I paint because art whisks me into a place of peace and content. I presented a portfolio in the 8th grade to go into Art II as a freshman and now I'm in AP Art 2D. I have submitted pieces into the Marin County Fair & have received numerous awards including Best of Show.

Fair Trade Committee

I initiated the formation of a Fair Trade committee at my high school to have my school become Fair Trade certified. The committee held events to raise awareness, and I presented financial plans to the administration to make the switch to all Fair Trade products at the school.

Competitive Irish Dancer

I have danced since I was in kindergarten and started dancing competitively in middle school into high school. I have competed in local competitions to U.S. Western Regional competitions in front of judges from around the world with ballrooms up to 200 people.

High School Italian & Study Abroad in Verona

I don’t have a single drop of Italian blood in me, but that doesn’t alter my decision to learn the Italian language. Learning a language is like a form of art. Italian is a form of expression for me as the words dance on my tongue like a paintbrush splashes color on canvas.

Hosting Italian Students

In September 2016, the Italian IV students hosted students from Verona, Italy. We had been sending videos in Italian back and forth for over a year learning about each others' cultures.

Volunteer Tutor at Catholic Youth Charities

I volunteered over 100 hours with Catholic Charities support program for immigrant families by tutoring in English and math to first graders.

Newspaper

I have been on newspaper for four years, and I have been a co-editor for both my junior and senior years.

Student Council

I was secretary for my class student council. I took detailed notes and was the event planner for all fundraisers in my class.

Admissions Representative

I was one of ten students chosen in my school to be on the admissions committee. I planned Open House for perspective families and give tours.

Georgetown University International Law Summer Institute

I attended a Georgetown University Summer Institute on International Law which was taught by professors from Georgetown's School of Foreign Service. It was a ten day intensive course for over eight hours a day.
